How it works

Mobile Bike Mechanic is a growing network of independent, self-employed bike mechanics. Each mechanic chooses the towns and nearby areas they can cover sensibly — you get your own profile and listing on our website, local enquiries are directed to you, and you handle the bookings, jobs and customer relationships yourself.

Think of it as running your own mobile bike repair business, but with the marketing, website, SEO and brand already done for you.

How territories work

We no longer treat a whole county as the default territory. Mechanics can be listed for the towns they genuinely cover, but paid mechanics get primary placement in their chosen towns.

Directory coverage can overlap — more than one mechanic can say they cover a town.
Primary placement is limited — each town has one main featured mechanic at the top.
Free trials are package-based — choose the package you would be willing to pay for after the trial.
Base location matters — patches are built around real travel routes, not county borders.

Patch packages

Choose the size of territory you want to trial. At the end of the trial, you can continue on that package, reduce your patch, or release the towns.

Starter Patch

Up to 8 primary towns

For smaller working areas, part-time mechanics or a tight local patch.

Core Patch

Up to 20 primary towns

The main option for a practical local territory.

Growth Patch

Up to 35 primary towns

For mechanics with the capacity to cover a larger area.

Who we're looking for

We want reliable, skilled bike mechanics who are serious about building a mobile repair business in their area. Whether you're already self-employed and want more leads, or you're looking to go solo for the first time — this could be the opportunity for you.

Qualifications & experience

Cytech Level 2 or above (preferred but not essential)
City & Guilds in Bicycle Mechanics or equivalent qualification
Significant hands-on experience in bicycle repair and servicing
Confident with all bike types — road, mountain, hybrid, e-bike, folding, kids' bikes
Own professional tools and reliable transport (essential for mobile work)
Full UK driving licence

Frequently asked questions

Is this a franchise?

No. This is a self-employed role, not a franchise. You take on an agreed local patch for our team and use your own trading name alongside the Mobile Bike Mechanic network.

Do I work under your brand or my own?

Both. You'll have your own profile on mobilebikemechanic.uk showcasing your brand name, but you're free to use your own trading name, van livery, business cards and social media. Customers will find you through our site and contact you directly.

How do enquiries work?

When a customer is on one of your primary towns, you get the main featured position and call-to-action. Other mechanics may still appear as directory options lower down if they also cover the area.

Why towns instead of whole counties?

Some counties are too large for one mobile mechanic to cover profitably. Town-based territories let us send you better enquiries, avoid long travel for small repairs, and keep customer expectations realistic.

Can more than one mechanic cover the same town?

Yes. Directory coverage can overlap, but only one mechanic is the primary featured mechanic for a town at a time. Primary placement is what the paid packages are built around.

Do I need to be Cytech qualified?

Cytech certification is preferred as it gives customers confidence, but it's not essential. If you have significant hands-on experience and can demonstrate your skills, we're happy to talk. We can also discuss routes to getting Cytech certified.

Do I need my own tools and transport?

Yes — as a mobile mechanic you'll need a professional toolkit and reliable vehicle. A van or estate car with a mobile workshop setup is ideal, but any reliable transport with space for tools and a workstand will work.

How much can I earn?

It depends on the area, your availability, the services you offer, and how you choose to run your self-employed business. We can discuss the commercial details privately by email.

I'm already self-employed — can I still join?

Absolutely. Many of our mechanics already run their own mobile repair business. Joining the network simply gives you an additional source of leads and a professional web presence without the hassle of building your own website and SEO from scratch.

What if my area isn't listed?

Get in touch anyway. We're open to expanding anywhere in the UK. If there's demand in your area, we'll build the pages and start driving traffic to you.
