What to Expect From a Mobile Bike Repair Visit
Published
Local Bike Mechanic — James Thornton, Staffordshire Moorlands & Cheshire East
If you've never used a mobile bike mechanic before, you might wonder what actually happens. Here's a clear picture of what a typical visit looks like.
Booking
Most bookings are done by phone or online enquiry. We'll ask about the problem (or confirm it's a service), your location, and agree a time that works for you — including evenings and weekends in most cases.
Before we arrive
You don't need to do anything special. Having the bike accessible — in the garden, driveway, or garage — makes things slightly easier. We bring our own tools, workstand, and parts.
On arrival
We'll have a quick look at the bike and confirm the work needed before we start. If there's more than originally described, we'll tell you and agree on price before touching it. No surprises.
During the visit
Most service visits take 45–90 minutes depending on the level of work. For a basic service, expect around 45 minutes. An intermediate service with multiple adjustments and component checks typically runs 60–75 minutes.
You're welcome to stay and watch, ask questions, or leave us to it — whatever suits you.
Parts and pricing
Parts used are discussed and agreed before fitting. Common parts (cables, brake pads, inner tubes, chains) are carried in the van. Less common parts may need ordering — in that case, we'll arrange a return visit or advise on alternatives.
After the visit
We'll walk you through what was done, what was replaced, and anything to keep an eye on. For most customers this includes a quick word on basic maintenance — chain lubing, tyre pressure checks — to keep the bike in good shape until the next service.
Payment
Payment is taken at the end of the visit. We accept bank transfer and cash.
